Achappam

Achappam is a delicious deep fried savory dish. Prepared in Kerala during festivals like Onam or Christmas. This requires a ‘die’ or ‘achhu’ that is used for deep frying. Ingredients
Rice flour – 3 cups
Egg – 1
Sesame seeds – 2 tbsp
Water
Sugar – As reqd
Method
- Mix all the above ingredients into thin paste (like dosa mavu).
- Place Achu into a deep vessel containing oil.
- Allow the oil to heat.
- Remove the hot achu and dip it half way into the paste.
- Now place the battered achu into the hot oil.
- Slowly shake the achu to separate achappam from achu into the oil.
- Remove achappam once it reaches golden color
